Hierok Silverbuckle
Tiefling Sage

Always a disappointment to his parents, Hierok grew up more bookish and inquisitive than his brutal brother, (the infamous Kierang the Destroyer, Reaver of Acheron). He was shipped off to study necromancy and undead lore at the dreary Citadel Exhalus on the Quasielemental Plane of Vacuum, where he proved to be a mediocre student at best. However, this was hoped to be a death sentence of sorts, and Hierok's parents did not seem too concerned about his poor grades. Hierok spent most of his time in the vast Doomguard Library, endlessly researching the ancient civilizations that he loved, and studying tomb architecture.

Eventually, exactly one week after Hierok's Erinyes mother failed to appear at Parents Day, Hierok made the fateful decision to leave the Citadel Exhalus forever. He managed to pilfer a potion of Vacuum Resistance, and stowed away aboard a lich's death-barge headed for the jungle world of Velouria. Although he was eventually discovered, Hierok managed to befriend the lich (who turned out not to be such a bad fellow) and offered his help in researching an ancient tomb that the lich was interested in. After he and the lich (the venerable Lakrionis) initially parted company, Hierok used his knowledge and newfound freedom to begin exploring some of the other ancient civilizations and tombs on the prime material plane that he had spent so many hours studying at school. Eventually he reached Molesfork Henge.

Hierok's Tiefling heritage is shown by his ability to use Shatter once per day, and a minor physical deformity; he was born with one normal leg and one goats leg (and tail). He tries to conceal this under a flowing robe whenever possible.

At this point in his career Hierok is still young and idealistic, driven by curiousity and a hunger for knowledge, but very guarded emotionally and afraid to trust others. The only friend he has ever had has been a lich, dead for over 600 years. This has to affect your self esteem!

Hierok Silverbuckle
Tomb Raider

Hierok spent enough time with the Lich Lakrionis to pick up an interest in Wizardry, specifically the art of Divination. He began his self-study of Wizardry while pursuing a career of breaking into tombs and collecting artifacts. At first he only kept items from tombs as long as he was interested in studying them (usually giving them away to local temples or fellow sages when he was through with them). Eventually, down on his luck and despised for his Tiefling heritage, he started to sell them. For a profit.

When rich merchants and aristocrats began to contract him specifically to break into tombs for specific artifacts, Hierok readily accepted the jobs. He had turned a moral corner in his life by this time. Each new tomb was a challenge, each new artifact a prize to be won, each new expedition was an opportunity to increase his wealth. Hierok drifted in and out of several adventurer groups, double-crossing most of them until his selfish reputation began to catch up with him. One ill-fated gambit in the Gogrot desert earned Hierok a vicious scar along his cheek from a disgruntled half-orc barbarian companion.

With the exception of his undead familiar, a mummified pharaoh's cat called Nuadha, Hierok prefers to travel alone, or with a few disposable lackeys.

Hierok Silverbuckle
Ruthless Planescaping Profiteer

Hierok eventually becomes a full-time sage and loremaster, returning (ironically enough) to the Citadel Exhalus for a short stint as a lecturer and an advisor to his brother's Abyssal Horde. However, even this doesn't seem to be enough to interest Hierok, and he soon begins to think about returning to a life of profiteering from plundered tombs and artifact theft. Just as it seems Hierok has gained the acceptance and respect from his family that he had always yearned for, he snaps. Hierok successively betrays nearly everyone at this point; his brother (who is lured into a suicidal mission to recover a nonexistent artifact from the plane of Acheron, where he perishes), both of his parents (who are framed for an elaborate betrayal of the Demon Lord Yeenoghu and subsequently executed), his fellow professors at the Citadel Exhalus (who are set adrift in the Quasielemental plane of vacuum during an school-sponsored trip to view the Planar boundary), and inexplicably, even his former friend, the lich Lakrionis (who had his phylactery seized and destroyed as well). Hierok gained their confidence and set them up for death, one by one by one.

Now pure evil, Hierok is dangerously intelligent, bitterly vengeful, and thoroughly insane. He never attacks anyone or anything directly, preferring to set up an elaborate and well-researched scheme to get what he wants. He uses his enemies weaknesses against them, scries (and spies) constantly on anyone who seems like a threat and never shows his real hand until the final moment. By that time, it's just too late.

Hierok has recently set himself up as the spider at the center of an elaborate, deadly web of crime and artifact theft that now extends across Molesfork.
